    Copper , n. [OE. coper (cf. D. koper, Sw. koppar, Dan. kobber, G. kupfer), LL. cuper, fr. L. cuprum for earlier Cyprium, Cyprium aes, i.e., Cyprian brass, fr. Gr. of Cyprus (Gr. ), anciently renowned for its copper mines. Cf. Cypreous.]
